"Learner's Permit" by Michelle Jane Wilson - PDF | MP3

Michelle Jane Wilson A native Minnesotan, I grew up in Lancaster, Minnesota, a village ten miles from the Canadian border. The tenth of twelve children there was always a lot of drama. I can't remember when I started writing, but a pack rat, I have everything (and possibly all the drafts) I have written since I was eleven. (Of course I never read any of that crap.) I have written poetry, short stories, but really think I found my comfort zone when I wrote my first play. Decades ago I was a playwright in residence with the Playwright's Lab, now the Playwright's Center, and my play FROM ZERO TO ALMOST 1% was produced during the Lab's Open Season. Then as a writer in residence with COMPAS I researched and wrote a play, THE BRIDGE OVER THE OCEAN, for the St. Paul History Theatre's Living History Project. After this residency I got side tracked studying screenwriting at Film in the Cities with Frank Daniel, whose influence has improved all my writing, and after getting an MFA in film studies, instead of a movie, I produced two marvelous little girls. Motherhood so immersed me into the here and now, that I couldn't get into a fictional realm, and I started writing personal essays. I just recently resumed writing plays and am having such fun.
